Membership

If you have a Waterbury Public Library card, you are a member of our library!
Membership and library cards are free to residents of the towns of Waterbury and Duxbury, Vermont.

When registering, adults must show ID and proof of address. Residents of other towns may obtain library cards by registering and paying a $10 annual nonresident fee. There is no charge to children under age 18 or to students with a current school ID, regardless of age or town of residence. Parents or guardians must take responsibility for children under age 16.

Loan Period And Limits

With a WPL card, you can borrow materials from the library’s collection; request interlibrary loans for items the library does not own; download e-Books and audio books; and use thousands of resources in the Vermont Online Library.

Most library materials may be borrowed for two weeks and may be renewed if no one else is waiting for them. Shorter loan periods may apply to materials in high demand, to equalize opportunities for access. Borrowers are responsible for materials checked out until those materials are returned to the library.
First-time borrowers may take out 2 items owned by the library.

Fines & Fees

The library and its materials are shared community resources. Borrowers are expected to return materials on time so that others may use them, too. There are no fines or fees for overdue items. However, lost or damaged materials are billed at full cost. Repeated failure to return materials or pay for replacements will result in loss of borrowing privileges until the matter is resolved. Borrowers with blocked accounts will not be able to borrow materials from WPL, may not request interlibrary loans, and may not be able to access some online services.

Interlibrary Loans (ILL)

Interlibrary loan is a free library service. Registered borrowers “in good standing” may request materials through interlibrary loan. A library member “in good standing” does not have an account balance for lost or damaged materials.

Interlibrary loan requests can be made in person at the circulation desk, over the phone (244-7036), or by email via the Contact Us tab above. If you make your request by email, please give as much information as possible about the item – author, title, format (book, CD, DVD), and edition (if that’s important to you). Include your current contact information and a “need by” date if you are working on a deadline. The more notice the library has, the more likely it is that you will receive the materials you need on time.

When your items arrive at the library, someone will contact you as soon as they are ready to pick up. Please pick them up promptly, since interlibrary loans will only be available for a few weeks.

Please note: Interlibrary loan borrowers are responsible for observing the rules of the lending library and for paying any charges for lost or damaged materials.
