Digital Services

Waterbury Public Library patrons have access to a wide range of digital resources. Choose from the following categories:

Ebooks, Audio Books & Magazines

There are two ways to access our Ebook and Audio Book collection:

Libby/Overdrive – eBooks & Audio Books

Use the Libby App through Overdrive to access our collection of eBooks and Audio books. The Waterbury Public Library is part of the Green Mountain Library Consortium, offering you access to thousands of new and old eBooks and Audio books. We also use Overdrive/Libby for our own collection specific to our library. Login to Overdrive/Libby to access both the Consortium’s collection as well as our own.

*If you have already been using Libby / Overdrive please check out the following page for important information regarding how you will need to switch over to the Green Mountain Library Consortium’s collection.

If you have never created an account with Overdrive, please check out Overdrive Libby Getting started

RBdigital Being Phased Out:  Start using Libby

The Waterbury Public Library will be moving some of the digital content from RBdigital to the Libby app on 12/16/20. You will be able to browse, borrow, and enjoy great ebooks and audiobooks available in Libby. OverDrive’s parent company purchased RBdigital, thus necessitation this change. If you have already been enjoying the Libby app, there will be no change for you other than some additional titles available. If you are an RBdigital user, please read on.

Transitioning your books, holds and lists from RBdigital to Libby

If you currently have a book checked out in the RBdigital app, it will be available through the remainder of the lending period, so you can finish your title without disruption or risk of losing your place in the book. You will not be able to renew it. Holds will not be moved. If you would like a record of your current holds, wish list, or history, you will need to capture that information by Tuesday 12/15/20. Your options are to write things down by hand (imagine that!) or you may export your transaction history from the RBdigital websites by accessing My Account > Profiles. See below for step-by-step instructions.
You can place holds on your desired titles again in Libby if the title is owned. Not all content is migrating. Please let us know if there is a must-have title that you cannot find in Libby and we will do our best to purchase it for your use in Libby.

For the time being, you can continue to use the RBdigital app to access the Zinio magazine collection and the Entertainment content (Acorn TV, IndieFlicks, Pongala, Test Prep, Great Courses). Your log in info will remain the same in the RB App or on the RBdigital website for as long as it is functional.
In January/February 2021, Zinio magazines will no longer be available, and in March/April the Entertainment platform in RBdigital will cease operation. When we are informed by Overdrive of exact dates, we will let you know. We are currently investigating other options for digital magazines and streaming movies/TV.

Getting Started with Libby

Our library is happy to continue to offer you a wide selection of digital titles for you to access anytime, anywhere through Libby, the reading app. Go to https://gmlc.overdrive.com/ to log in and get started.

For those who have not yet tried the Libby app, all you need is your library card number and PIN number. Your PIN number is the last 5 digits of your library card number. Do not use any spaces in either of those numbers. The Libby app is easy to use and will guide you through the setup process and get you connected to our library in just a few minutes. You can find in-app support, or visit the Help Site or Libby Academy within the app for assistance.  Download the Libby App to get started.

Step-by-step Instructions to export my account information

If you want to keep a list of items on your wish list, holds, or checkouts, you need to download this information by Dec. 15, otherwise the information will not be available. Note, you are not able to directly import this list into another eBook service like Overdrive – you would have to add the items to your wish list or place holds by hand.

  1. Login to the RBdigital website(not the app) with your username and password. This is the address – https://vermontstate.rbdigital.com
  2. Click the three horizontal line icon in the upper right-hand corner. Click My Account and then Profiles.
  3. On the bottom of the page, click Export my Transaction History. This will download a CSV file, which is a basic spreadsheet format.
  4. The file opens best in Excel, OpenOffice/LibreOffice, or another spreadsheet program. If you open it with Notepad or another text editor, you’ll see all of the items, but won’t be able to tell which is a checkout, which a hold, or which is on your wish list.
  5. Save this spreadsheet on your computer or device.
